(recipe by Betty Crocker)
Ingredients:
1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 box SuperMoist chocolate fudge cake mix
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup applesauce
2 eggs
½ cup pecans, chopped
****
Preheat oven to 350 degrees (325 degrees if using a dark or nonstick
pan). Grease bottom only of a 13” x 9” pan with shortening, and lightly
flour.
In small microwaveable bowl, microwave the sweetened condensed
milk and ½ cup chocolate chips on 50% power for about 1 minute
(chocolate will be softened). Stir until smooth and set aside.
In a
large bowl, mix dry cake mix with oil using an electric mixer on low
speed for 30 seconds (mixture should be crumbly). Set aside 1 cup of
this mixture.
To the rest of the mixture, add apple sauce and eggs.
Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, being sure to scrape the sides
occasionally. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Spread batter in
prepared pan.
Drop melted chocolate mixture by teaspoonfuls over
batter, dropping more around the edges than in the center.
Stir
remaining chocolate chips and the pecans into the reserved cake mixture
then sprinkle it over the batter.
Bake 38 – 42 minutes. Center should
be set when done. Run a knife around the side of the pan to loosen it.
